Almost, but not all. Modern packages almost always have an API. Sometimes not with older or highly specialized software, and then only file exchange remains: slower and more fragile. We will find that out in advance.

With daily retyping, usually within a few months. Do the math yourself: hours per week times your hourly rate times 46 weeks. If the result is less than the construction price, then it is not a good idea.

Failed messages are queued and retried. If it still doesn't work, you will receive a notification instead of silent data loss. That error handling part is the most boring and important part.

Usually yes. Serious vendors keep their API stable and announce changes. If something breaks, you will see it in the error messages: with a service contract we will solve it before you notice it.

At low frequency, in a process that is still changing, and when one of the two packages is replaced within a year. Linking to a system that disappears is a waste of money.

Rarely. One system that does everything usually does everything half way. Specialized packages that are well linked work better in practice than an all-rounder.

Sometimes. Some suppliers charge for it or require a more expensive subscription. Ask before you have a connection built, then you will know the total costs.

Each link gets its own key with only the permissions it needs, kept outside the code and outside of version control. This way you can retract one without breaking the rest.

With common Dutch packages in almost all cases: approved orders or hours then automatically become draft invoices. We check in advance whether the API offers what is needed.

You use an API to request something when you want; a webhook is the other system that reports as soon as something happens. In a connection you usually use both.

Yes. There's a log of what went through and what went wrong, and you'll be notified of any final errors. Silent data loss is the only unacceptable scenario.
