Build it yourself or leave make?

We sell the second option. All the more reason to be honest about when the former is better.

Building it yourself with a website builder costs little money and a lot of time, and produces a site that is technically limited but sufficient for many starters. Building costs money and provides speed, findability and ownership. Below a certain turnover, doing it yourself is simply the wise choice.

WHEN WHAT

When which

If you are just starting out, don't have a turnover yet and mainly want to exist online, a website builder is the wise choice. An €895 site that you can't afford now won't help you.

The tipping point is where your website should actually generate customers. As soon as findability and conversion determine turnover, the difference usually quickly pays for itself.

  • Even at the very beginning — being online is the first step.
  • Even on a temporary project — a site that may disappear after a year.
  • Even if you like it — and have the time to learn.
  • Even with a purely informative site — no requests, no conversion requirement.
  • Have it made if you want customers — findability and conversion are craftsmanship.
  • Have it made if you have little time — dozens of hours are also money.
  • Have it made for custom wishes — platforms end somewhere.
  • Have it made if you want to own it — without dependence on a platform.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

More about the choice

Is a website builder bad for SEO?

Not unusable, but limited. You can usually set the basics; speed and fine-grained technical control are more difficult. This is often not an obstacle for local, uncompetitive terms.

Can I switch later?

Yes. You take texts and images with you, and with redirects you maintain your positions. Make sure that your domain is in your own name: otherwise the transfer will start with a negotiation.

Do you ever recommend doing it yourself?

Yes, for starters without a budget. Half a project or an investment that you cannot support does not help anyone. Then starting yourself and switching later is the better route.
