Two quotes that differ by thousands of euros almost never differ in hourly rate.
You do not judge a website quotation on the final amount, but on scope, ownership and costs over three years. Large price differences are almost always because quotes contain something different, not because one party works more expensively. Ask explicitly what is not included.
STEP BY STEP
What you pay attention to
- Count the pages and functionsFive pages versus twelve explains most of any price difference. Only compare if the scope is the same, otherwise you are not comparing anything.
- Find the sentence about ownershipDo you get the source code, and does transfer cost extra? If this is not there, ask and have it recorded. This is the most expensive missing sentence in most quotes.
- Calculate three yearsConstruction price plus hosting plus maintenance times 36 months. A low construction price with an expensive monthly contract is often higher than the other way around.
- Ask what is not includedTexts, photos, multilingualism, links and measurement are the five items that are most often missing and invoiced afterwards.
- Look at the contract durationA low monthly amount with a two-year contract is not a subscription but a payment in installments: and usually without owning anything at the end.
- Ask about the lead time and what you need to deliverA quote without planning and without your obligations is a quote that will slide later.
PITFALLS
Signs to watch out for
A quotation without a scope description is the most expensive you can sign: anything that later turns out to be missing is additional work.
'Everything is possible' is also a warning. A builder who doesn't say no to anything doesn't think along with you about what you do need.
- No scope description — everything then becomes extra work.
- No sense about ownership — ask and have it recorded.
- Long contract duration — calculate the total.
- No planning — a date is rarely missing accidentally.
- Everything is possible — Thinking along sometimes means saying no.
- Well: a fixed price — with clear conditions for changes.

More about quotes
Can I compare your quote with another?
Please. Feel free to send us the others - we will tell you what we are missing and where we are more expensive and why. Sometimes the conclusion is that the other person is a better fit, and we say so.
Why do quotes differ so much?
Almost always by scope: number of pages, whether or not texts, whether or not links, whether or not multilingualism. Put the scopes next to each other and the difference is usually immediately explainable.
Is a fixed price always better?
For a defined project, yes: you know where you stand. In continuous development work, actual costing is fairer, provided there is a clear maximum and fixed reporting.

Doubt about one quote?
Send it to him. We identify what is missing, even if the conclusion is that you should stay with the other person.
