Your domain name is the one part of your online presence that you really shouldn't lose.
A domain name is the address that visitors enter to reach your website, for example agentslabs.net. You don't buy it, but rent it annually from a registrar. Behind the scenes, the DNS system translates that name into the IP address of the server where your site runs.

A domain name is always temporary. You pay annually and as long as you renew, it remains yours. If you forget to renew, it will be released after a grace period: and domain names that once attracted visitors are quickly snapped up.
More important than where you register it is whose name it is in. That sounds like a formality until you want to switch suppliers and it turns out that the domain is in the name of your old builder.
Check that today. It's in the public WHOIS data and it will take you two minutes.
WHY IT MATTERS
What you pay attention to
The extension matters less than people think. For a Dutch company, .nl is the most obvious choice; another extension won't cost you any positions as long as everything else is correct.
What does count: short, pronounceable over the telephone, and without dashes if possible. You type it a thousand times yourself.
- In the name of your company — not in the name of your builder or an employee.
- Automatic renewal on — the cheapest insurance available.
- Contact details current — renewal reminders go to that address.
- Pronounceable over the telephone — you explain it verbally more often than you think.
- Variations recorded — common typos and the .nl next to your main extension.

Is my domain in my own name?
Look up your domain in a public WHOIS service and see who is listed as the registrant. If your builder or hosting party is listed there, have that adjusted. As long as you are not the holder, you cannot move independently.
Can I take my domain to another party?
Yes, provided it is in your name. You request a moving code and give it to the new party. This is standard with us: your domain is yours, even if you ever want to continue somewhere else.
What happens if I forget to renew?
There will then be a period during which you can still retrieve it, usually at an additional cost. After that he will be released and anyone can register him. Buying back is then a negotiation, not a right.
